Is it the case that God’s providential purposes may include what free-will creatures choose and do? Scripture again gives us wonderful examples and clear teaching that indeed the free-will choices we make do not stand outside of God’s providential workings but are part of what he uses to bring about his good and wise purposes.
We will explore a number of practical areas that are impacted by one’s understanding of divine providence. How do God’s providential purposes relate to prayer, evangelism, salvation assurance and guidance?
Scripture testifies remarkably to God’s providential workings in the events of the natural world, in the actions and events of kingdoms and nations, and in a manner that includes all that happens in life. We’ll consider biblical teaching on God’s providential workings more specifically in the good that happens in life as well as in what is bad. We may or may not be able to understand just how God works in both realms, but Scripture is clear in indicating that he does. So, while God is good and good alone, he exerts his control over both the good and bad of life.
