Many problems in church leadership involve disputes and relationship breakdown, whether between leaders or between leaders and the congregation. In a fallen world this is inevitable, and we need to develop skills to revolve conflict. Drawing on biblical teaching and examples we will consider how to avoid and resolve conflicts in church life.
We enjoy tremendous opportunities for gospel ministry. Faithful gospel churches are growing, new churches are being planted, gifted gospel workers are being identified and trained, and there is growing gospel unity and co-operation. There are wonderful opportunities for world mission on our doorstep. We need to ensure that we keep praying, preaching the gospel to all people and working together to reach all communities.
Most challenges in church leadership involve relationships with other people. Effective leaders need to learn understand themselves, reads others, and communicate well. We will draw on biblical examples to examine the emotional skills necessary for good leadership, and how to develop them.
In this seminar we will consider whether forgiveness is possible after we have fallen into temptation and sin. We will rejoice in the wonderful truth that the grace of God is sufficient for all our sins to be forgiven, and see that the church needs to be a community that practices forgiveness and restoration. However often we will also have to live with the ongoing consequences of our sins.
We face significant theological, philosophical, political, sociological, cultural and demographic challenges, which have led many to suggest that the church needs to change its method or its message. We need to have renewed confidence in the sovereignty of God, the victory of Christ and the power of the gospel.
In this seminar we will consider why struggling with temptation is inevitable in the Christian life, how temptation is not the same as sin, and what we must do if we are to resist temptation and help each other to win the battle.
